Federal Minister for National Health Services Syed Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday launched the Care1166 Health Complaint Management System at the Federal Directorate of Immunization in Islamabad. The Associated Press of Pakistan described it as a centralized digital platform meant to make it easier for the public to complain and to strengthen accountability across the health sector.

The Ministry of Health has introduced helpline number 1166 to resolve public complaints. Residents of Islamabad can register complaints about the Ministry of National Health Services and its attached departments and institutions by calling the helpline directly.

Express News reported that citizens will no longer need to visit various government offices to file a complaint. Under the system, complaints will be forwarded automatically to the relevant officer or the health department.

According to Express News, progress on each complaint, from the action taken to its final resolution, will be monitored at every stage. Each complaint will be passed to a responsible officer, and a record of its progress will be kept. For each complaint, a designated responsible officer will also be appointed in the relevant hospital.

A central dashboard has been set up for this purpose. Through it, the health minister can review complaints and follow their progress from the office. Express News reported that the dashboard will also help identify diseases and health problems in different areas.

The new system will create a central and traceable record of hospital complaints, Express News reported. It is meant to help the Ministry of Health directly monitor citizen complaints and the delivery of services in hospitals, so that problems raised by the public can be followed from the first call to their resolution.

Why it matters

Residents of Islamabad can now register complaints about health services through a single helpline, which routes them to responsible officials, instead of visiting several government offices.
