The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has dismissed social media reports of a TikTok ban in Pakistan, saying the notification being shared online is fake. In a statement issued on 5 November 2026, the regulator said it had not issued any notification announcing a ban on the video-sharing platform.

The notification began circulating on social media and led many users to ask whether TikTok would remain available in the country. The PTA described the circulating information as false and misleading, and its statement confirms that no official ban notification exists.

According to TechJuice, the fake document claimed the PTA had decided to ban TikTok over national security and public order concerns. It also reportedly cited the protection of children and young people as reasons for the supposed decision.

TechJuice also reported that the fake document alleged TikTok was spreading immoral, indecent and harmful content that went against Pakistan's culture and social values. The PTA rejected the notification and confirmed that no such decision has been announced.

The authority urged social media users not to believe or share unverified reports. It reiterated the importance of checking online information before passing it on.

The PTA advised citizens to rely only on authentic sources for telecommunications updates and regulatory decisions. It said the public can get verified information through its official website and its authenticated social media accounts.

PhoneWorld also noted that mobile phone tax rates and calculations fall under the Federal Board of Revenue, not the PTA. Business Recorder reported the clarification on Thursday.

Background

khabr.pk reported on 3 November that PTA Chairman Hafeezur Rehman told a National Assembly committee that 96 million Pakistanis use YouTube and that 560 million videos are watched in Pakistan every day.
