Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited reported a profit before tax of Rs37.1 billion for the nine-month period ended 30 September 2026. The figure compares with Rs46.1 billion in the previous comparable period, according to The Nation Business, Business Recorder and Daily Times, which described the performance as resilient.

The bank posted revenue of Rs53.6 billion, down 15 percent from a year earlier. It said the decline was primarily due to a reduction in interest rates.

Total expenses fell 1 percent compared with the previous period. Business Recorder reported the bank saying this reflected strong cost discipline despite investment in its people and infrastructure. The cost-to-income ratio stood at 33 percent, according to Daily Times.

The bank recorded a net expected credit loss (ECL) release of Rs1.2 billion during the period. It attributed this to a prudent approach to risk and strong recoveries of bad debts.

On the balance sheet, total deposits stood at Rs739 billion. That was an increase of Rs88.7 billion, or 14 percent, from the start of the year. Current accounts made up 58 percent of the deposit book.

Net advances rose by Rs31.5 billion during the year, driven by corporate advances and mortgages. Daily Times reported the increase as 15, without specifying the unit in its list of facts.

The bank also said it facilitated the Government of Pakistan's return to international capital markets after a four-year hiatus. This was done through a USD 3,750 million Eurobond and a USD 250 million Panda Bond issuance.

For the period, the bank reported a Return on Equity of 22.1 percent and a Capital Adequacy Ratio of 19.1 percent.

Why it matters

Results from a major bank reflect the health of the banking sector that Pakistani savers and borrowers rely on. The bank reported deposit and lending growth even as lower interest rates reduced its revenue.
