Spotify has introduced audiobooks in Pakistan. From November 4, Pakistani users can access more than 100,000 English-language titles through a new subscription service called Audiobooks+, according to The Express Tribune and TechJuice.

Both Free and Premium users can subscribe. The plan costs Rs489 per month and includes 15 hours of listening. The subscription renews monthly, and unused hours reset at the start of each billing cycle.

TechJuice reported that only active listening counts towards the allowance, so pausing or closing the app does not use up hours. Users who run out can buy a 10-hour top-up for Rs579, which TechJuice said can be bought at any time during the month. Individual titles can also be bought without a recurring subscription.

The app has a dedicated Audiobooks section for browsing and searching. Features include automatic bookmarking, a sleep timer, offline downloads and progress syncing across supported devices. Page Match lets users switch between a physical or digital book and its audiobook and continue from the same place. TechJuice added that Spotify has put ISBN barcode scanning into Page Match, so users can scan a book's cover and jump to the matching position.

Owen Smith, Spotify's vice-president of Audiobooks, said: "For a lot of people, audiobooks are how they find their way back to reading, on the commute, on a walk, or at the end of a long day".

The Pakistan launch is part of a wider rollout announced at the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 7. Spotify plans to offer audiobooks in more than 180 markets by the end of 2026, potentially reaching over 780 million people. TechJuice described it as Spotify's first major content expansion in Pakistan beyond music and podcasts.

According to the company, monthly audiobook listeners rose by nearly 40 per cent over the past year and listening hours by more than 30 per cent. Audiobooks+ has attracted more than one million subscribers since launching just over a year ago. TechJuice said it is unclear whether Urdu-language titles will be available in Pakistan.

To subscribe, users update the Spotify app, open the Audiobooks section and select a title.
