Pakistan's total liquid foreign exchange reserves increased by $111 million to $26.86 billion, according to figures the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced on Thursday. Daily Pakistan said the rise covered the week ending October 30, 2026.

The SBP's own reserves rose by $40 million to $21.56 billion, according to 24 News Business. Daily Pakistan put the weekly gain at $39 million, taking the holdings to $21.561 billion from $21.522 billion a week earlier.

Foreign exchange reserves held by commercial banks rose by about $71 million to $5.30 billion. Daily Pakistan reported that their net holdings stood at $5.303 billion, up from $5.233 billion on October 23.

Daily Pakistan reported that total liquid reserves moved from $26.754 billion to $26.864 billion over the week. The combined rise in central bank and commercial bank holdings produced the new total.

Over a longer period, Daily Pakistan said SBP-held reserves were about $18.38 billion at the end of June 2026 and reached $21.56 billion by October 30, a gain of about $3.18 billion. At the end of October 2025 the SBP held about $14.50 billion, so its reserves are now about 49% higher.

Combined liquid reserves rose from $19.17 billion in October 2025 to nearly $26.86 billion, an increase of about $7.69 billion, or around 40%, the same outlet reported.

Daily Pakistan described the year's path: Pakistan entered 2026 with total reserves of about $20.84 billion, saw modest early gains, and then a slip in April. Reserves improved in May and June, fell in July, recovered a little in August and rose much more in September, lifting the total above $26 billion. The report also mentions reserve targets previously outlined by SBP Governor Jameel Ahmed.

Background

khabr.pk reported on 5 November that Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said Saudi Arabia had rolled over its $3 billion deposit for Pakistan. The interbank US dollar closed at Rs276.67 on 5 November, according to khabr.pk's records.

Why it matters

Higher reserves support the rupee, which affects import prices for households and businesses. Fuel is among the imported goods, with petrol at Rs352.59 per litre and high-speed diesel at Rs382.25 on 5 November. The interbank dollar closed at Rs276.67 that day, so the exchange rate bears on what importers pay.
