Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday symbolically inaugurated a newly built house under the Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar scheme on the outskirts of Hasan Abdal. She expressed satisfaction that the programme had achieved its target of giving 225,000 loans to deserving families.

During the visit she met retired Havildar Aitbar Shah and his family and presented them with gifts. According to Daily Times, Shah owned a plot but could not build on it because of financial constraints.

Shah received a loan of Rs1.5 million under the provincial housing scheme, which allowed him to complete his home. His family served the chief minister traditional dishes of okra and lentils at her request.

In Attock, Maryam Nawaz unveiled a development package of Rs31.75 billion comprising 186 schemes. It includes 59 road schemes worth Rs23.25 billion and 127 other projects costing Rs8.5 billion. The provincial government describes it as the largest development initiative in the district's 122-year history.

For the first time, projects for the construction, repair and rehabilitation of 865 kilometres of roads have been launched together in Attock. The major road schemes include the 43.95-kilometre Fateh Jang-Pindi Gheb Road, the Dhok Laham-Jhamat Road and the Mithial Chowk-Dhok Pathan Road.

Work at 82 Maryam Nawaz Clinics and hospitals in the district has been completed. Nawaz Sharif Centres of Excellence for Special Education have been set up in Hasan Abdal and Fateh Jang.

Projects under development on the chief minister's instructions include a modern children's home, a Model Agri Mall and a land record centre in Hazro.

Why it matters
