The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have received 10 modern ambulances and eight armoured personnel carriers (APCs) to improve the safety and medical support of personnel during anti-terrorism operations. 24NewsHD TV reported the handover on Monday.

Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed handed the keys to senior officers from different regions and districts at a ceremony at the Central Police Office in Peshawar. All additional IGPs, DIGs and other senior officers attended.

The armoured vehicles include six Zarb-e-Haider APCs and two Dragon-class APCs. The vehicles and ambulances were given to police officers in Peshawar, Charsadda, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Abbottabad and Shangla.

According to Express News, the ambulances carry the medical equipment needed for field medical requirements. They are meant to give first aid to personnel injured during operations or militant attacks and move them quickly to hospital.

The IGP inspected the ambulances and APCs and received a detailed briefing on their features and performance. Hameed said the modern APCs would help personnel move safely during operations and emergencies, protecting their lives from terrorist attacks.

Express News also reported that Hameed said the fast ambulances would give injured personnel valuable time until they reach hospital. He said all available resources were being used to equip the force, and that special summaries had been sent to the provincial government in this regard.

Express News described the provincial police as a frontline force in the fight against terrorism for the past two decades, with personnel from the rank of IGP to constable having lost their lives.
