- Foreign Office accuses the Taliban government of sheltering the TTP, BLA and other groups
- Pakistan rejects claims that its counterterrorism operations caused civilian deaths
- It says its actions were self-defence, a last resort, and aimed only at militants and logistics centres
- It asks the international community to press Kabul to follow UN Security Council resolutions
Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesperson said the Afghan Taliban government is sheltering militant groups including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and groups Pakistan calls Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan. The statement was reported on 26 October 2026.
The statement rejected allegations that Pakistan's counterterrorism operations had caused civilian deaths, calling them baseless. It said misleading narratives cannot hide the threat from terrorist networks operating from Afghan territory.
The spokesperson said the Taliban government is responsible for stopping Afghan soil from being used for attacks on Pakistan. The Foreign Office also referred to United Nations monitoring reports, which it said have expressed concern about the Taliban government sheltering terrorist organisations.
According to the spokesperson, terrorist attacks planned and financed from Afghan territory have killed thousands of Pakistanis. The statement said Pakistan cannot stay silent while its citizens and security forces are repeatedly attacked.
Islamabad described its operations as taken in self-defence and as a last resort. The spokesperson said Pakistani action in Afghanistan targeted only terrorists and their logistics centres, that the response was proportionate to the threat, and that the principles of precaution and distinction were followed.
The Foreign Office called on the international community to make the Afghan Taliban government comply with UN Security Council resolutions. It said preventing Afghan soil from being used for terrorism is the Taliban government's duty.
Pakistan said it reserves the right to take necessary steps to protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity and citizens. The claims in the statement represent Pakistan's official position.
Why it matters
Militant attacks inside Pakistan affect citizens directly, and the government is publicly linking them to territory under the Afghan Taliban.
