An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday extended the judicial remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ghulam Mohiuddin Dewan by 14 days. The case involves alleged provocative speeches and arson at Sherpao Bridge on May 9.
According to Daily Times, ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill heard the case. Dewan was produced before the court from jail when his previous judicial remand expired.
The investigating officer told the court that the supplementary challan was being prepared and would be submitted shortly. The court directed police to submit a supplementary challan in the case.
Police say Dewan was present at the scene of the incident and allegedly delivered speeches and took part in arson along with other PTI leaders. His arrest was formally recorded in FIR No. 97/23, registered at Sarwar Road police station.
The court sent Dewan back to jail. He is to be produced before the court again on November 12.
In a separate matter, an anti-terrorism court extended the interim pre-arrest bail of Punjab Assembly member Hafiz Farhat Abbas until November 17, Daily Times reported. The extension covers four cases related to the May 9 violence, including the Jinnah House and Askari Tower attacks.
Abbas appeared before the court when his previous interim bail expired. The prosecution sought more time to produce case records, and the court accepted the request. The prosecution was directed to present the relevant records at the next hearing.
Abbas had filed pre-arrest bail petitions in the four cases registered in connection with the May 9 incidents, citing apprehension of arrest.
