Pakistani security forces returned fire after Afghan border posts opened fire near Angoor Adda in South Waziristan, according to the Lower South Waziristan deputy commissioner. He made the statement on Sunday in a post on X.
The deputy commissioner said Pakistani forces hit several Afghan border posts, mortar positions and defensive positions. According to him, Afghan Taliban personnel abandoned their positions after the Pakistani response.
He said no casualties had been reported so far in Pakistani border areas. He added that Pakistani forces were ready to respond effectively to any aggression.
Earlier this week, clashes near Angoor Adda left one person dead and five members of a family injured. The Pakistan Army said it responded to Afghan aggression by targeting Afghan Taliban checkposts. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar used the words "deliberate and unlawful incursion", according to The Express Tribune.
The latest firing comes after months of tension. Fighting between Pakistan and Afghanistan began in October 2025. Operation Ghazab Lil Haq was launched around the end of February after renewed border clashes.
A week-long ceasefire was agreed on the eve of Eidul Fitr on March 18, after requests from Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. In April, Pakistan put three demands to the Afghan Taliban at peace talks in Urumqi, China.
Pakistan's demands include Kabul formally declaring the TTP a terrorist organisation, dismantling its infrastructure, and providing verifiable proof of action.
The government said Pakistan carried out air strikes and ground operations in September that killed 37 terrorists in K-P. The Information Ministry said three targets were destroyed, including a training centre for suicide bombers, and 28 terrorists were killed. On September 24, Pakistan struck 10 locations in Afghanistan after drones entered Pakistani airspace from Afghan territory.
Why it matters
Cross-border firing puts security forces and residents of South Waziristan at risk and shapes Pakistan's ties with Kabul.
