The UN human rights office (OHCHR) warned in a statement issued on Friday that Israeli forces in Gaza are displacing more Palestinians, who are being moved repeatedly into an ever-smaller part of the enclave.
According to OHCHR, the Israeli army is encroaching further past its deployment line, known as the Yellow Line. The office said Palestinians are prevented from returning to the homes that remain on the other side of that line.
OHCHR said the Israeli military is also destroying remaining civilian infrastructure and attacking sites where displaced people are sheltering. It said Israel has stated an aim of increasing its military deployment area to 70 percent of Gaza's territory.
Over the past two weeks, OHCHR documented a westward expansion of the Israeli military that caused new displacement in Shujayea, Gaza City, eastern Bureij, eastern Deir el-Balah and eastern al-Maghazi.
The office said at least two Israeli attacks were reported on displacement camps in Shujayea, where explosive robots detonated the few remaining buildings. It also received reports that an Israeli drone dropped munitions on a tent housing displaced Palestinians at the Shujayea junction on Sunday.
The Palestinian Ministry of Public Works and Housing in Gaza said the resulting fire displaced 200 families, comprising 800 people.
Ajith Sunghay, head of the OHCHR in occupied Palestine, said: "Those displaced before the announcement of a ceasefire have little to no prospect of return to the areas they fled, most of which are inaccessible because they fall beyond the so-called Yellow Line. And they continue to be displaced again and again."
According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, Israeli attacks have killed at least 1,574 people and wounded 5,687 since a ceasefire agreement took effect on October 11, 2025. Since October 2023, it says, attacks have killed at least 74,570 people and wounded 175,808.
