The Second Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP-2), worth $240 million, was reviewed with a focus on K-IV associated facilities. Environmental and social instruments for these facilities were submitted to the World Bank for clearance. A revalidation survey for the K-IV augmentation resettlement action plan is to proceed shortly. The KWSSIP-2 contract is expected to be signed on December 5, and a census and survey are planned from December 21, 2026, to February 20, 2027.
Several KW&SC regulatory measures have been approved, while service and wastewater recycling and reuse regulations remain pending. The earlier KWSSIP project has closed. Dhabeji Rising Main rectification is complete, and chlorination stations have been relocated, commissioned and handed over to KW&SC. The second phase of water-quality testing is underway. Soba Nagar and Essa Nagri water and sanitation works are expected to finish by November 15 and December 31 respectively, and customer service centres are ready for inauguration by the end of November.

Full completion of the landfill site and three garbage transfer stations, at Sharafi Goth, Imtiaz and Gutter Baghicha, is expected by November 30.
Why it matters
World Bank-funded projects shape roads, water and public services across Sindh, including in Karachi. The review shows where works such as bridges, bus corridors, water supply and landfill are ahead or behind schedule.
