3Years without relief for Imran Khan, per Yousafzai

Shaukat Yousafzai, information secretary of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has responded to talk that Ali Amin Gandapur formed a separate group. Speaking to the media, as reported by Express News, he rejected the claim.

He said the party remains united under the leadership of Barrister Gohar and that Gandapur has not created any separate group. According to him, whatever took place at the parliamentary party meeting is an internal matter of the party.

Yousafzai said the biggest beneficiaries of Imran Khan being in jail are YouTubers. He also said the PML-N and the PPP gained the most from the gap between state institutions and PTI.

He said the prime minister and the leader of the opposition had been very late in holding their meeting. He described reports of a no-confidence move against Mahmood Khan Achakzai as baseless.

Yousafzai said the party has not been able to obtain any relief for Imran Khan in three years and must review its strategy afresh.

He said it is not known where Sohail Afridi, Junaid Akbar and Babar Saleem Swati are, and he expressed concern that none of the three has been brought forward. He said that if they are wanted in any cases, they should be presented in court.

On relations with the centre, he said the federation's attitude toward the province has been unfair from the start, and he urged the prime minister to ensure immediate payment of all the province's outstanding dues.

He also said an elected government was ended on the pretext of non-cooperation on terrorism. According to him, PTI has always stood with the institutions in the fight against terrorism, and the National Action Plan should be implemented.

Why it matters

The remarks bear on how united PTI is, and the party's role in Parliament, which affects Pakistan's political direction. They also include a call for payment of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's dues.
