The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has launched SMEConnect, a centralised digital platform that lets small and medium enterprises (SMEs) apply for financing from banks and development finance institutions (DFIs) across the country through one online window. The platform is available at smeconnect.sbp.org.pk.

From November 1, 2026, all SME financing applications will be received exclusively through SMEConnect. Applicants who go to a bank or DFI branch, or apply through their websites, will be directed to the portal.

The platform lets applicants track the status of their applications in real time. Those whose applications are rejected can see the reasons on the platform. A tutorial video on the portal explains how to apply for financing.

SMEConnect also has a live dashboard that gives the SBP real-time data on applications received, processed, approved, disbursed and rejected. The data is available for individual banks and DFIs as well as for the industry as a whole.

The central bank has advised banks and DFIs to display the SMEConnect link prominently on their websites. It has also told them to make sure their SME teams and field staff understand the platform and can guide applicants through the process.

The SBP says the platform will improve accessibility, efficiency and transparency in SME financing. According to TechJuice, the launch also aims to support financial inclusion and inclusive economic growth. Business Recorder reported that the portal is part of the SBP's efforts to build an SME-friendly financial ecosystem and to strengthen links between SMEs and financial institutions.

ProPakistani noted that the SBP earlier raised SME financing limits to up to Rs. 500 million and released draft prudential regulations for SME financing for public consultation.

Why it matters

Small and medium businesses in Pakistan seeking loans will have to apply through this single portal from November 1, 2026, where they can track applications and see reasons for any rejection.
