Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Monday directed the formulation of a comprehensive strategy to revive the Pakistan Television (PTV) Drama and Film Academy as a modern training institution. The aim is to give young people professional skills in filmmaking, drama production and digital content creation.

Tarar chaired a high-level meeting on the revival of the academy. Federal Secretary for Information Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil and senior ministry officials attended, according to Daily Pakistan.

The meeting reviewed the revival of the PTV Drama and Film Academy and retraining programmes linked to the revamp of PTV Home. Several training models developed with private sector participation were presented. They are meant to train young people and create new sources of revenue for PTV.

Participants also reviewed plans to set up modern classrooms and studio labs, install workstations for students, deploy technical staff and trainers, and form the curriculum.

Tarar said the revival of the academy and the revamp of PTV Home are part of the government's commitment to promoting media and creative industries. He also said a colour grading training programme is being launched in Pakistan for the first time, and that people previously had to go abroad for such training.

A transparent, practical pilot project will be started through a partnership with the private sector so that training matches the needs of the industry. The academy will have modern editing suites, studio labs and technical equipment.

Training will combine theory with practical work, project development and portfolio preparation. Creative projects by young people for PTV News, PTV Home and PTV will be encouraged, and steps will be taken to make the academy financially sustainable.

Why it matters

The revival aims to train new drama and film talent for Pakistan's television and film industry, and the colour grading course would offer training that previously required going abroad.
