The federal government has reduced the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel for November 3, 2026. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) issued a press release and notification on Monday announcing the new rates, which take effect from midnight.
Petrol has been cut by Rs3.40 per litre, bringing the price to Rs374.51. High-speed diesel (HSD) has been cut by Rs7.76 per litre to Rs395.20. Business Recorder reported that the regulator revised the ex-depot prices under the federal government's petroleum pricing mechanism.
Business Recorder also reported that on Friday the government had raised the diesel price by Rs2.29 per litre to Rs402.96 from Rs400.67. ProPakistani described the latest revision as the first time petrol and diesel have become cheaper since October.
Oil refineries will bear a burden of Rs15 billion per month, according to The Express Tribune, which allows petrol to be sold Rs15 cheaper than the global market price amid the US-Israeli war on Iran. Express News reported that a Rs15 rise in petrol that was due on Friday was not passed on to the public. The petroleum minister said the burden was placed on refineries instead.
The Express Tribune noted that on July 17 the government replaced the weekly pricing mechanism with a daily petroleum pricing review, amid US-Iran tensions.
The paper also recalled that on September 13 Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a relief scheme giving Rs100 per litre off petrol for motorcycles, three-wheeler rickshaws and cars with engines up to 800cc. It is estimated to cover 11.8 million beneficiaries. About 10 million two-wheeler users and 800,000 three-wheeler users would get relief on 20 litres a month, up to Rs2,000 each. One million small-car users would get relief on 30 litres a month, up to Rs3,000 each.
Express News also reported that final talks between the government and Jamaat-e-Islami on the petrol levy are to be held on November 3.
Why it matters
Petrol and diesel prices drive transport and food costs for households across Pakistan, so the cut affects commuters and consumers alike.
