The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved an increase of Rs2.37 per unit in electricity tariffs under the monthly fuel price adjustment for September 2026. The increase will be reflected in consumers' bills for November.

The hike applies to consumers across the country, including those served by K-Electric. Daily Times reported that Nepra issued a formal notification confirming that the increase relates to fuel cost variations recorded in September 2026.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had asked for a larger increase of Rs2.56 per unit under the September adjustment. According to 24 News, power tariffs had been raised by Rs1.11 per unit in August.

Nepra also approved an increase of Rs2.32 per unit in the concessional rate for additional electricity consumption by industrial and agricultural consumers. Under the revised rate, power from the additional consumption package will cost Rs25.30 per unit, up from Rs22.98. The new rate takes effect from the November billing cycle, and Nepra has forwarded its decision on it to the federal government.

According to Geo, the federal government currently provides relief ranging from Rs11 to Rs15 per unit to industrial and agricultural consumers on additional consumption.

The decision on the concessional rate was reached through the casting vote of the Nepra chairman. Members Amna Ahmed and Maqsood Anwar Khan submitted dissenting notes, and they called the proposed rate of Rs25.30 per unit baseless.

The package was announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in October last year as the Roshan Economy Power Package. It sets a discounted tariff of Rs22.98 per unit for industrial and agricultural users on electricity consumed above last year's usage. The three-year scheme runs from November 2025 to October 2028, with base consumption kept on existing rates and only incremental units priced at the discounted rate.

Why it matters

Electricity consumers across Pakistan, including those of K-Electric, will pay Rs2.37 more per unit on their November bills. Industrial and agricultural users who consume more than last year's usage will pay Rs25.30 per unit for the additional units instead of Rs22.98 from the November billing cycle. Base consumption stays on existing rates under the scheme.
