Hub Power Company (HUBCO) plans to begin local production of BYD vehicles in Pakistan in December 2026. The Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is expected to be the first model assembled locally, according to HUBCO's management at an analyst briefing on Tuesday.
Arif Habib Limited (AHL), which attended the session, said in its report that the company's electric mobility business continues to gain traction. It said cumulative BYD sales have exceeded 10,000 units.
AHL quoted its own assessment of the outlook: "Management expects growth momentum to strengthen following the commencement of local CKD production, targeted for Dec’26, with the Sealion 6 PHEV as the first locally assembled model."
On earnings, the reports say the business made a profit of approximately Rs. 1.5 billion in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. HUBCO's share of that profit stood at Rs. 780 million.
HUBCO is also evaluating additional BYD models in the B and C segments. According to AHL, the Sealion 6, B8 and B5 are expected around the end of calendar year 2026.
BYD entered Pakistan's passenger vehicle market in March 2024 through a partnership with Mega Conglomerate Pvt. Ltd. The association was later clarified through HUBCO's wholly owned subsidiary, Hub Power Holdings, and its associated company, Mega Motor Company (MMC). MMC is responsible for manufacturing, marketing and distributing BYD-branded passenger vehicles in Pakistan.
The BYD and MMC plant near Karachi is expected to initially produce 25,000 vehicles annually on a double-shift basis. It can scale up to 50,000 units per year. HUBCO has also expressed interest in developing charging infrastructure.
Why it matters
Locally assembled BYD plug-in hybrids could give Pakistani car buyers a new option. The planned Karachi-area plant and HUBCO's interest in charging infrastructure relate to the wider electric mobility market.
