Bestway Group has officially introduced Chinese automaker Geely Auto to Pakistan at a launch ceremony held at Park View City in Islamabad. The event was attended by group founder Sir M. Anwar Pervez, Group Chairman Lord Zameer Choudrey, senior executives from both companies, industry leaders, guests and members of the media.
The launch marks Bestway Group's entry into the automotive sector. Bestway Automotive will act as Geely's sole authorised distributor in Pakistan and will oversee the brand's introduction and development, including vehicle sales and after-sales support.
The partnership also opens the way for local assembly. Bestway is preparing its facility in Karachi for the next phase of Geely's operations in Pakistan. Irfan Sheikh, Group Managing Director for Non-Banking Businesses at Bestway Group, said the aim is to have locally assembled Geely vehicles on Pakistan's roads within the next few months.
Three models were unveiled. The Geely EX2 is a compact, fully electric hatchback designed for urban driving, and the EX5 is a fully electric SUV. The Starray EM-R uses range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) technology, which combines electric driving with an onboard petrol engine. No prices were given in the reports.
Haider Choudrey, Group Chief Executive Officer of Bestway Group, said the group has invested more than $350 million in Pakistan in the last three years, in sectors such as cement manufacturing and banking, creating over 20,000 jobs. He said the Geely partnership would open opportunities in local manufacturing, employment, skills development and the automotive supply chain, while giving consumers more choice.
Evin Ye, Vice President of GAIC and Managing Director of Geely Auto ASEAN, said Pakistan is Geely's first market in South Asia. He described the partnership as a long-term commitment to strengthening customer support and bringing safe, intelligent and high-quality mobility to Pakistani families.
The launch was framed around Geely's global brand philosophy, "See the World in Full", which the company links to inclusive mobility.
Why it matters
Pakistani car buyers get a new brand with two fully electric models and a range-extended hybrid, and local assembly in Karachi is planned. The company says it could create manufacturing jobs and strengthen the supply chain.
