The federal government has raised the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs2.29 per litre and kept petrol unchanged for the next three days. The new rates apply from October 31 to November 2, 2026, according to a notification.
Business Recorder reported, citing a press release from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) issued on Friday, that diesel moves to Rs402.96 per litre from Rs400.67. Petrol stays at Rs377.91 per litre. OGRA said the regulator revised ex-depot prices under the federal government's petroleum pricing mechanism.
Daily Pakistan reported that diesel has become Rs3.14 costlier within two days. The Express Tribune reported that the government had raised diesel by 85 paisa per litre for October 29, taking it above Rs400.
The Express Tribune also noted that on July 17 the government announced a daily price review mechanism to replace the weekly one. Express News reported that government officials assured petrol pump owners the 15-day price revision system would be restored.
The change comes as international oil prices rose. The Express Tribune reported that oil gained more than 2 percent on Friday after a tanker was struck in the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude was up 2.37 percent at $117.56 a barrel, and West Texas Intermediate rose 2.13 percent to $104.17 a barrel.
UBS analyst Giovanni Staunovo said: "Oil prices are under pressure today amid renewed diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict in the Middle East". Daily Pakistan reported that oil was heading towards a fourth consecutive monthly gain, with markets worried about possible further American strikes on Iran after the US midterm elections.
The Express Tribune also recalled that on September 13 Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a Rs100 per litre petrol relief scheme for motorcycles, three-wheelers and cars up to 800cc, estimated to cover 11.8 million beneficiaries. Express News and Daily Pakistan reported that OGRA also raised LNG prices by up to 15 percent for October.
Why it matters
Diesel is used in transport, so a higher price can affect freight and travel costs for households across Pakistan. Petrol buyers see no change for the three days.
