Pakistan and China on Monday reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen their all-weather strategic cooperative partnership, during a visit to Pakistan by Liu Haixing, minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee (IDCPC).

Liu called on Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, according to the military's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The ISPR said both sides discussed matters of mutual interest, regional and international security dynamics and bilateral relations. It said the two officials expressed shared resolve to further strengthen the partnership between Islamabad and Beijing.

According to the ISPR, Munir emphasised sustained high-level engagement, stronger institutional linkages and expanded cooperation with China. He also highlighted the historic and time-tested bonds between the two countries. The visiting minister appreciated Pakistan's contributions to regional peace and stability, the ISPR said.

Liu is in Pakistan on the invitation of Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The Associated Press of Pakistan published images of Dar receiving him at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and holding a bilateral meeting with him.

Dar and Liu also co-chaired a symposium in Islamabad titled "Symposium on Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building and Seminar on China-Pakistan Governance". Minute Mirror reported that Dar said Pakistan wants to benefit from the governance practices and development experience of China's Communist Party, and stressed stronger political and institutional cooperation. According to a Foreign Office spokesperson, the event focused on expanding cooperation between the two sides.

The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations; the two countries established ties on May 21, 1951. The Express Tribune reported that Liu's first visit to Pakistan reflects Beijing's push to deepen ties beyond government-to-government diplomacy, with the IDCPC serving as its principal channel for party-to-party diplomacy.

The Express Tribune also noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's visit to China in May renewed commitments to deepen partnership and strengthen defence and security cooperation under the 2025-2029 action plan.
