Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Monday for an official visit, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
Iran's state news agency IRNA reported that Munir would take part in a joint meeting in Tehran with Saudi Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman and Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin. Pakistan is represented by the army chief, Saudi Arabia by its defence minister and Türkiye by the head of its intelligence service.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran was hosting senior officials from Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He said Tehran had agreed to the four-country meeting following a proposal from Field Marshal Munir.
According to Baghaei, the meeting would discuss the US war on Iran, Israel's policies in the region and the ongoing turmoil in Lebanon. Daily Pakistan also quoted him as saying the situation in Palestine and the region would be discussed, and that building trust between countries of the region is necessary.
A news agency cited by Daily Pakistan said it would be the first high-level meeting between Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye since the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia.
IRNA also cited remarks attributed to Ali Bagheri, deputy secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, who said the talks are expected to focus on regional cooperation and the concept of "endogenous security" in West Asia.
Daily Times, citing Reuters, described the three visiting countries as members of the Makkah Defence Pact and said the meeting was the first joint high-level contact between them and Iranian leadership. The reports did not give details of any outcome of the talks.
