Abu Dhabi will host a new round of trilateral talks involving the United States, Russia and Ukraine on November 10 and 11. US special envoy Steve Witkoff announced the meeting in a post on X on Tuesday night, according to CBS News.

The United States will mediate working-level negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian officials, Gulf News reported. The agenda is to cover post-war security arrangements, de-escalation measures, humanitarian issues and the next steps towards a peace agreement.

In his post, Witkoff said: "We look forward to building on the progress made in Kyiv, Oslo, and St. Petersburg toward a comprehensive, durable peace agreement that delivers lasting security for generations to come."

Later this week, US negotiators will meet representatives from France, Germany, the United Kingdom and NATO in Brussels. Gulf News reported that the European Union will also take part. The talks are to focus on security guarantees for Ukraine, the future of Europe's post-war security architecture and economic opportunities to support Ukraine's reconstruction. The parallel meetings are meant to coordinate positions on a possible peace settlement.

The announcement comes amid continued fighting. CBS News reported that a localized ceasefire in the Kherson region ended on Sunday. The brief truce allowed humanitarian supplies into the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky and the evacuation of an undisclosed number of residents. Both sides credited it to US first lady Melania Trump and Pope Leo.

Russia's defense ministry said on Tuesday that it carried out a massive strike on energy facilities across Ukraine and on port infrastructure in the Odessa region. Authorities said at least 29 people were killed in a village in the Zaporizhzhia region.

The regional administration in Kharkiv said a Russian strike hit a medical facility, wounding 25 people and forcing the evacuation of around 200 patients. Moscow's mayor said 500 Ukrainian drones heading toward the capital were destroyed overnight.

Why it matters

The talks will be held in the Gulf, where many Pakistani workers live and work, and they involve a conflict between major powers.
